Privacy, Technology and Perspective

This week, we're continuing to showcase some capabilities of generative AI by venturing into new territory: AI-generated podcasts. Using Google Lab's NotebookLM tool, we transformed our recent post, “When AI Sings the Robot Lawyer Blues,” into an audio format. This experiment brings to light a host of considerations for legal professionals in an increasingly AI-saturated world.

Our Thoughts

AI-generated content, like our podcast, crosses the line between reality and fiction—and conceivably, between truth and lies, depending on how the tool is used. How do we establish authenticity in a world where deepfakes and AI-generated content convincingly mimic human-created content? These technologies arguably complicate our relationships with each other and our institutions by creating a layer of uncertainty and mistrust. When people cannot easily distinguish what is genuine from what is fabricated, they lose trust in information and each other.

Hence, as we navigate the evolving landscape of AI, we must also confront the broader societal implications of these technologies, including profound questions about authenticity, trust, and the nature of human communication and relationships. There aren’t clear answers. However, we must stay informed about these developments and consider their implications for our practice and the legal system at large.
